It wasn't clear what was going on, such as which incarnation of Ganondorf was lying beneath the castle or if Zelda could be a playable character on the release of Breath of the Wild 2. While those questions haven't been neatly answered at E3 2021, it's a little clearer now.

Along with this announcement came a haunting trailer, that showed heroes Link and Princess Zelda discovering a corpse of Ganondorf beneath Hyrule Castle. When Nintendo revealed the news that there was a sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in development, fans were understandably delighted. The rich flora and fauna that festooned each area, along with a largely compelling and fully narrated storyline, meant that Breath of the Wild quickly became a game that many could not put down, and nor did they want to. The Kingdom of Hyrule had never been experienced so extensively, or so organically, before. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild broke the mold when it first launched in 2017. After years of waiting, fans of The Legend of Zelda series have finally been given a release date for Breath of the Wild’s sequel, as well its first-ever gameplay footage.
